Rawdogging Life
This is me. Author, editor, mother of two, stepmother of one, MS warrior, perimenopause gremlin.
I don't want to pull any punches, and there's a very good reason for that.
In my 30s, it became increasingly obvious that something was wrong with me. I kept going to my doctor, and he kept running tests, but never the right ones. I was exhausted all the time, couldn't think straight, went colorblind. Something was wrong with my brain, but it wasn't until I lost the ability to speak that I finally got some answers.
In 2019, just days before my diagnosis, Selma Blair did an interview on Nightline about what it was like to live with MS. Despite my doctor assuring me for over a year that it wasn't what I had, I found the interview to be inspiring. I clung to her strength and bravery. When the neurologist turned to me, sympathetic doctor mask in place, and said, "It looks like multiple sclerosis," I turned to my husband and shouted, "I TOLD YOU!" Poor doctor certainly hadn't been expecting that reaction.
Diagnosis in hand, I armed myself with knowledge. I did research, read books, and I changed my life. And I refuse to pull punches because being delicate doesn't help anyone. If you have questions, reach out. I'm here.
Writing isn't always easy for me. In fact, sometimes it's downright impossible, but I keep at it because I'm a stubbon mule. I'll never be one of those authors who can churn out a dozen+ books a year, but I can always promise that the emotions I write are real. Grief, love, relief, hope. I feel them all daily--or several times a day, depending on hormones! Because I'm a mom, a woman, a warrior. Because I'm human. And so are you.
Hope to see you between the pages...
